It doesn't seem possible! But today the twins are three months old. It has been a crazy three months, hence this is the first blog update since they were born. And the only reason this is happening is because Greg is walking around with Molly. So the pics may be scattered disorganized, but at least I'll get it posted!
The first six weeks were extremely challenging. Cate really struggled with the feeding, and has really bad reflux. I mean really bad. Like projectile exorcist style reflux. It took her
almost a month just to get back to her birth weight. She was bottle fed with calorie boosted breast milk for almost that full first month, and really didn't get the hang of breastfeeding until she was almost six weeks, but we did it. I almost gave up many times, but with the encouragement of an awesome lactation consultant (thanks Jean!), we finally conquered the bottle confusion we had created with all the early supplementing. She's on Prevacid for the reflux and now somedays the spitting up isn't so bad, but there are other times when you wonder if anything stayed down. And then there is Molly. Her struggles with feeding were a lot shorter lived, and we only had to bottle supplement her for a
few days. At first they both gained weight just about the same, and at their one month visit, they were each a little over six pounds. By two months Molly was a few ounces more. And now, she weighs a pound and a half more! I weighed them this weekend, and Cate was 9lb2oz, Molly at 10lb8oz! Wow - you should see them now. Molly is on the left in this picture - the one above it Cate is on the left. You can really see how they've grown!

And their personalities are completely different as well. I predicted them too quickly if you remember from my last post. Cate is my champion sleeper, sleeping most nights at least nine hours. In her crib. No crying. She smiles all the time, giggling and laughing, right before she falls asleep for nine straight hours. I've never seen anything like it! Molly, on the other hand, is definitely one of mine. A lot more fussing, requiring a lot more holding, rocking, swaddling, etc. . And this is especially true from about 7 pm on. I have taken to sleeping with her, unfortunately, as I am not a fan of this, but you have to do what you have to do, to sleep! Probably why she weighs so much more, since she eats all night long. One more month, and the tough love (i.e. sleep training) will have to start.
I've been back to work for about a month now, and it has been going pretty well. The first week we had extra help for Brittany, our sitter, but that fell through, and she said she was ready to try it alone. For the most part it has gone well. I'm home 2 days, and only a few times has she needed more help. As the twins have gotten older, and less fussy, it definitely has gotten easier. It also helps that Sophie & Meg have started to adjust as well. The first month was pretty rough. A lot of sleep issues with Meg that we are still struggling with, and Sophie just had a difficult time adjusting. But it is getting better, and we are starting to have a little more structure. We are sleeping better too which is also helping. Greg was a little out of sorts for the first few weeks, having to get up every three hours to feed babies. He said that if he had had to do this with Sophie, we would have only had one baby! I guess that's why you leave the night feedings to the mom!
What else? Meg had her third birthday in June, and Greg got her a bouncy house for her party. Of course, it rained all day, but luckily we had it for the weekend, and the girls loved it. We also went out for pizza to Happy Joe's on her actual birthday, which is always a lot of fun. Small place, but great taco pizza, and games. Plus, they blow a loud horn and sing you happy birthday! I didn't make the cake this year - hopefully I will have more time next year.
